Cy Falls Coaching History

Wayne Hooks

1994-2002

Hired to start up the fifth football program under the Cy Fair ISD umbrella, Wayne Hooks wasted no time getting Cy Falls in a position to win games. He led the Golden Eagles to a respectable 6-4 record during their inaugural season, and had them clinch their first playoff spot by the third year of their existence. By 1997, Hooks had put together a high flying offense that nearly tripled the points they scored as the amount of points they gave up, giving Cy Falls their first district title. Another finish at the top of the standings would follow in 2000. Though the Golden Eagles would only make the playoffs three of the nine years of Hooks’ tenure, the team would finish with a losing record only once during that stretch. Today, Hooks is still the record holder for most wins and highest winning percentage at the helm of the Cy Falls football program.

David Raffield

2003-2010

Like his predecessor before him, David Raffield quickly brought Cy Falls to competitiveness early in his reign. After a lackluster 3-7 season in his first year at the controls, Raffield turned the Golden Eagles into one of the biggest postseason powerhouses in Cy Fair ISD football history. Raffield and Cy Falls would manage to win 10 playoff games over the next three years, never exiting any earlier than the third round. This culminated with a run to the state championship game in 2006 after finishing the regular season in a three way tie for first place in the district standings at 7-3. Despite coming in second to the win totals of Wayne Hooks at Cy Falls, highlights of the Raffield era included the first ever trip to a football state championship game for a Cy Fair ISD school, as well as the second most playoff wins and the second highest playoff win percentage of any football coach in Cy Fair ISD history.

Kirk Eaton

2011-2016

Kirk Eaton’s tenure as the head coach at Cy Falls almost tragically ended before it started. Just over a month before the start of the 2011 season, Eaton nearly drowned in a diving accident at Canyon Lake, surviving after being given CPR by Cy Falls defensive coordinator Chris Brister and Cy Woods offensive coordinator Curtis Neill. Eaton’s team responded with the best regular season in Cy Falls’ football history, going 9-1 and coming in second place to district champion Cy Fair. The Golden Eagles made the playoffs for the second consecutive time under Eaton’s command in 2012, but suffered a massive fallout in 2013 as they put up a 2-8 mark. 2014 saw improvements, but it would take until 2015 to get Cy Falls back into the playoff picture.. In his short five years, Eaton’s seen a little bit of everything at the helm of the Golden Eagles football program.
