The UIL will be keeping its football state championships in Arlington for at least one more year beyond their current contract.

The present deal with AT&T Stadium, reached during the summer of 2018, guaranteed the Dallas Cowboys hosting rights for all 12 of the UIL’s state football championships for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. The new agreement keeps all 12 championship games in Arlington for the 2020 season as well.

Since it opened in June 2009, AT&T Stadium has hosted at least the 3A through 6A level of UIL football championship for all but two possible years; NRG Stadium in Houston housed the 2015 title games, while the UIL already had an agreement in place with the Alamodome in San Antonio for the 2009 season.

The Alamodome hosted the championships for the bigger conferences from 2006-2009. Old Texas Stadium in Irving and the Astrodome both played host to championship games for the larger classifications in the early 2000’s. Shotwell Stadium in Abilene often served as a host for smaller conferences, including six-man football, until the UIL began to house them all in the same building in the 2010’s.

Of the three Cy Fair ISD schools to play for a state title in football, Cy Ranch (2014 loss) and Cy Fair (2017 win) played their games at AT&T Stadium, while Cy Falls (2006 loss) made their lone appearance at the Alamodome.
