WIRED:
Last season, Cy Creek pulled off a feat that hasn’t been accomplished by a Cy Fair ISD school since the 2009 Cy Falls Golden Eagles – make the playoffs without a winning record. And unlike those 2009 Eagles who also went 5-5 only to be easily disposed of by Stony Point in the first round of the playoffs, these Cougars got really, really hot, bulldozing their way to the Region III Finals by some lopsided scores before falling to West Brook.

Cy Creek returns a decent number of playmakers from that squad. Josh White, who finished last season with 150 tackles and is quoted by head coach Greg McCaig as “one of the top linebackers in the country,” headlines six returning defensive starters. That group also includes the very physical defensive back Jarrie Spikes, who wreaked havoc in the secondary a year ago. With lineman Julian Coronado and up-and-coming sophomore Michael Rivera highlighting the pass rush, the Cougars defense could prove to be one of the best in 17-6A by the time everything is said and done. There’s a few more questions offensively; Julian Uwadia and Chaedron Wright will be vying for the quarterback spot in camp. But the running back position seems pretty well set, as Eddie Jimerson and his 23 touchdowns and over 1,600 offensive yards will make him a danger in both the passing and running game.

If you were to put this team in any other district besides 17-6A, they’d probably easily compete for a district title; the only problem for Cy Creek is they’re playing in a very top-heavy 17-6A this year. They definitely have a chance to make a lot of noise this fall, and they’re a playoff lock for us.
