Cy Ridge Rams
Head Coach: Andrew Shanle (1st season)
Lettermen R/L: 23/28
Starters O/D: 8/6
2018 Record: 7-3, 5-3
2019 Prediction: 2nd

The 2018-2019 offseason saw the retirement of Gary Thiebaud, the only football coach Cy Ridge has ever known. They ended up with a pretty good replacement in Andrew Shanle, architect of many defenses that helped catapult Cy Ranch to one of the more successful high school football programs in Texas over the past few years. Even better for Shanle, he’s inherited an insane roster that leads all of Cy Fair ISD in returning starters amongst non-second-year programs, with 14 players back from last year’s squad that missed the playoffs despite going 7-3 in the regular season.

Part of the expected success for 2019 comes from what should be one of the most dominant front seven’s in Cy Fair ISD. Vernon Broughton, Ja’Nyus Morgan, and Centarus Smith all return to the defensive line; Broughton and Morgan were both First Team All-District selections last year, while Centarus Smith was Second Team All-District. Safety Jevaun Dabon’s ballhawking skills are also back in the secondary (5 INT’s in 2018), while Second Team All-District cornerback Kade Barnes will be back to help the pass defense as well. Offensively, a whopping eight starters are back, highlighted by LeJeune Patterson, who can play at both the quarterback and wide receiver positions exceptionally well. Powerful back Tristan Fletcher and up-and-coming speedster Leslie Wellington will give the Rams options in the backfield, while the young Aaron Woods highlights a fast receiver core.

On paper, this roster has the potential to rival the 2007 and 2016 teams as one of the best in the history of Cy Ridge football. Its going to be a tough task for them to jump the juggernaut that we expect Cy Fair to be, but there’s no reason the Rams shouldn’t be in the district title race late into the season. Heck, their Week 10 matchup against the Bobcats may end up deciding where the crown goes in 17-6A. Even if they can’t topple the behemoth that is Ed Pustejovky and Cy Fair, expect them to be right in the mix as one of the best teams in Cy Fair ISD.
