Head Coach: Rusty Rohan (2nd season)
Lettermen R/L: 19/40
Starters O/D: 6/5
2018 Record: 1-9, 1-7
2019 Prediction: 9th

Cy Springs felt the pinch last year after the loss of both former head coach Rick Cobia and one of the best recent classes of football players the program had in nearly a decade. That season of adjustment saw the Panthers grab just one win, a close 37-30 victory over varsity-newcomer Cy Park. With one season under his belt and 11 returning starters, Rohan’s squad will likely make some marked improvements over last year.

Much like Cy Lakes, though, the incoming flux of junior varsity players will have to fill a lot of holes in depth for Cy Springs to really make strides in 2019. The Panthers lost a district-high 40 lettermen to graduation, not a good stat to look at when you’re coming off a 1-9 campaign. However, many of those 11 returning starters are poised to have big seasons; safety Johnathan Bloom was a force in the secondary last year with 75 tackles and two interceptions. He’ll be joined on the back seven by linebacker Jarmari Seals, the 6’1″, 180 lbs sophomore who saw action on the varsity squad last year as a freshman. Quarterback Jeremiah Mosley, who also saw varsity time last season, is back to lead the offense along with five other returning starters.

While a handful of individual players are primed for some big years, it probably won’t be enough to overcome the lack of depth and growth still needed for this program to make a push for the playoffs. They’ll definitely be competitive though, and have a hot chance to play spoiler for someone else’s postseason hopes.
