WIRED:
Jersey Village defied all expectations in 2018, capturing their first district title and playoff win since 2004, their first playoff appearance and since 2006, and wiping the district slate clean with an 8-0 mark in 17-6A for the first time since 1991. It was a postseason dance that probably should’ve lasted longer, had the Falcons not ran into the buzzsaw that is Katy in the second round.

From that 2018 squad, a fair amount has changed. Caleb Weaver, who was an outstanding member of the secondary last season, has been moved over to the quarterback spot to replace the graduated Raymond Richardson who, along with Deshun Qualls, has been one of the best QB’s the program has seen in years. The experienced receiver core should help the transition for Weaver; Dionel Burrell and Michael Evans both return as solid pass options. Xaiver Joice seems to be the heir-apparent at the running back spot, and while he’s been clocked with a speedy 4.5 40, it remains to be seen how much success him and Jersey Village will have on the ground. Defensively, a lot of playmakers have been lost as well. One of the bright returning spots belongs to linebacker Kelvin Cruse, who racked up 60 tackles and 13 sacks in 2018 and has range to cover the entire field. Isaac Hocker is back on the defensive line and should get some help there from Carlos Ortiz, but especially with the loss of Weaver to the offense, there’s a lot of question marks there too, especially in the secondary.

Jersey Village will win games, there’s no doubt about that. The only question is whether or not the new faces will be able to fill in the gaps enough to make the playoffs. The Falcons will likely stay in the postseason race well into the season, but we think they’ll come up just a hair short once its all said and done.
